BE BOLD teaching artist guiding students at the Kips Bay Boys & Girls Club, Palmaro Clubhouse.

BE BOLD is widely recognized for its exceptional teaching artists, our dance and music educators. Our teaching artists participate in rigorous, specialized training centered around holistic child development and social-emotional learning through a commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility. Our teaching artists guide children as they learn ballet steps and dance history, especially the stories of dancers of color. They also encourage students to explore various musical instruments, genres, and the relationship between music and dance. The Misty Copeland Foundation attracts top-tier talent through strategic recruitment efforts involving our Advisory Council and our latest partner, the Manhattan School of Music.

Our teaching artists are devoted to nurturing children’s development through the medium of dance and music. They come from diverse backgrounds: current or former dancers, accomplished musicians, or other related arts professionals. To ensure their continual growth, teaching artists participate in comprehensive multi-day teacher training workshops twice yearly. They also receive ongoing support and mentorship from the BE BOLD Program Director and others, including a developmental psychologist and a DEIA consultant.

Beyond their instructional roles, teaching artists refine the BE BOLD framework, drawing on their direct observations and classroom experience. They actively contribute to lesson plan development, encouraging children to explore dance and music while engaging in self-reflective practices to enhance children’s social and emotional well-being.
